About our tenement house

Wroclaw's Tenement House Pod Zlota Korona boasts both eye-catching architecture and an interesting history. City documents say that it already existed in the second half of the 15th century. A century later, after modernization commissioned by the merchant Johan von Holtz of Cologne, it became one of the first works of the Silesian Renaissance. In 1904, a decision was made to demolish the building and erect a new Art Nouveau townhouse in its place, but this was almost completely destroyed during World War II. In 1957-1960 it was rebuilt according to the plans from before 1904 - with an attic and with a Renaissance portal, which was moved from the tenement house at Kazimierza Wielkiego 28. Thanks to this, it refers in form to Venetian architecture and is distinguished by a golden crown on the coals of the building, designed by artist Irena Lipska-Zworska.
